News Update 3/10/16

posted 3 Oct 2016, 11:46 by Moneygall GAA
Darby Collison: On Thursday 20th October we will hold an event in the Séamus Ó Riain Centre to mark the 100th Anniversary of Darby Collison’s All Ireland success with Tipperary in 1916. In doing so Darby became the first North Tipperary man to win an All Ireland senior hurling medal. Proceedings will get underway at 8pm, and a commemorative display of Darby’s achievements throughout his career will be unveiled. All members of the community are invited to attend.

Senior: Our senior hurlers will play Silvermines in Toomevara this Sunday, in round two of the relegation playoffs. Throw-in time is 12 noon. Please come along and show your support.

Minor: Hard luck to the Moneygall/Clonakenny players who were beaten by St Mary’s by 0-18 to 0-9 in the county hurling semi final on Saturday last. We were also beaten by Clonmel Commercials in the county football semi final last Wednesday night. Well done to the players and management on a successful year that saw the team win the hurling and football double in the north championships.

Under 13: Hard luck to the Moneygall/Clonakenny team who were beaten by Silvermines by 4-10 to 1-7 in the semi final of the North Plate in Dolla last Friday evening.

Jim Sheedy Tournament: Last Sunday week we took part in the Jim Sheedy U12 Tournament in Roscrea. We played 4 group games, with wins over Roscrea, Portroe and Clough Ballacolla, with one defeat to Shinrone. We then played Clough Ballacolla again in the semi final, where we came out winners before going on to beat Roscrea in the final by two points. We had six very competitive games played in tricky conditions because of the weather, well done to all our players on their performances.

Jack Ryan Tournament: Our Under 8s were also in action in Roscrea on the weekend before last, taking part in the Jack Ryan Tournament. We had a great turnout with lots of supporters and everyone played very well. Roscrea's hospitality was excellent with lots of food and treats.
Thanks to Roscrea GAA for the invitations and the hospitality at both tournaments. Thanks also to all our coaches and thanks to Sandra for her photography.

Black & Red Golf: Noel Whyte’s President’s Prize had to be postponed last Saturday week owing to the bad weather. The competition has been refixed for Saturday 22nd October at Roscrea G.C., with the first tee reserved from 12 noon until 1.30pm.
At the end of this year the society will have completed 25 seasons of golf. The society has given great enjoyment to a lot of people over the years and we have almost 60 members. After the President’s Prize we will have a celebration dinner. All past captains and their partners have been invited, and dinner will be served at 5.30pm. Golf and dinner will cost €30, or dinner only for €20. Names for the dinner must be given to Tom Byrne or Paddy Bergin by Wednesday 19th October. We look forward to a very special occasion.

Lotto: Our jackpot has now reached €12350. You can buy your tickets for just €2 each through the Club Lotto section of our website. Many thanks to all our lotto players and promoters for your continued support.
