The Féile na nGael Under 14 Hurling Weekend returns to our parish this month for the first time since 1991, as Tipperary and Waterford jointly host this year's tournament.

Founded by Moneygall's
Séamus Ó Riain, the festival was first held in 1971 and was hosted by Tipperary for the first two years. Dungiven (Derry) were our visitors in both 1971 and 1972. When the tournament returned to Tipperary in 1990 we hosted St Vincent's (Dublin), and in 1991 Loughrea (Galway) were our visitors. This year we welcome Carrickmacross (Monaghan) to Moneygall and Clonakenny for the competition, running from 17th to 19th June.

The matches will get underway on the afternoon of Friday 17th, with four matches taking place in St Flannan's Park, and our club will also run a series of other events around the festival.

Format: There will be hurling, camogie and handball competitions held all over Tipperary and Waterford throughout the weekend. The hurling teams are divided into ten separate divisions consisting of 16 teams each, with each division split into four groups of four. Moneygall/Clonakenny will contest Division 7 Group D. The first and second placed teams in the final group standings will progress to the Division 7 Cup Quarter Finals, and the third and fourth placed teams will go on to the Division 7 Shield Quarter Finals.

Beginning on Monday 13th June at Moneygall GAA Club, when the Jersey Presentation for the Moneygall/Clonakenny team will take place as they are presented with their jerseys by sponsors Anne and Kevin McCormack of Byrne's Shop Dunkerrin. That night we will also hold our Féile na nGael Fundraising Draw, and find out who the winners of the Pair of All-Ireland Final Tickets (1st), Meal for Two in Fiacri House (2nd), and County Jersey (3rd), will be.

We will run an Art Competition in each of the three National Schools of Dunkerrin, Moneygall and Lismackin, in the build-up to the weekend (details will be announced through the schools).

Following the four matches in St Flannan's Park on the Friday evening, we will then hold a Skills Competition for the young players in the GAA Grounds.

We will also have a Photograph Exhibition on display in the Séamus Ó Riain Centre for the duration of the celebrations, with photos of some of our earliest club teams, our major successes down through the years, and of our previous Féile na nGael teams. We welcome and encourage all members of our community to visit the clubhouse throughout the week.
