Moneygall had dramatic one-point win against Cappawhite in the first round of the County Senior Hurling Championship group stages in The Ragg on Sunday afternoon.  A strong start had been a key factor in Cappawhite's three-point win when the teams met in the 2014 county championship, and they started well here too, opening up a 1-3 to no score lead after ten minutes.

Moneygall finally got off the mark in the 12th minute with a point from Ger Kirwan, quickly followed by one from Brian Teehan.  Approaching the 20 minute mark Donal Doughan tipped down Anthony Devereux's long delivery for Sean Fogarty to finish to the net, and Moneygall were back in the match at 1-4 to 1-2.

Into the last 10 minutes of the half Adam Hogan knocked over two frees and added a lovely score from play following a good build-up involving Phil Fanning and Anthony Devereux.  Moneygall's last point of the half came from a 65 from Willie Greene to leave just a point between the teams at half-time, 1-7 to 1-6 for Cappawhite.  Their lead might have been greater if not for eight first half wides.

Early in the second half Ger Ryan set up Adam Hogan to level the scores, and shortly after his third point from play had Moneygall in front for the first time.  But three points without reply had Cappawhite back in the lead, before Donal Doughan set up Sean Fogarty for a point to narrow the gap to one again at the three-quarter stage, 1-10 to 1-9.

Into the last ten minutes Moneygall were awarded a penalty.  Willie Greene's shot was saved, but Ger Kirwan was quickest to react and crashed the rebound to the net.  Pointed frees from either touchline from Adam Hogan and Willie Greene stretched the lead to four points with three minutes to play.

A Cappawhite point in the last minute of normal time, followed by an injury time goal, had the teams level again and a draw looked on the cards.  But deep into injury time substitute Cathal Hogan soloed upfield and handpassed to Ger Kirwan who struck the winning point with the last puck of the game.
