Co Challenge Cup - Moneygall 0-20 Killenaule 1-12

posted 3 Mar 2014, 12:46 by Moneygall GAA
Our senior hurlers got their year off to a winning start when they beat Killenaule in the first round of the County Challenge Cup in St Flannan’s Park on Sunday afternoon.

Moneygall had wind advantage in the first half and all the half back line scored from play in the opening period.  But some wayward shooting up front meant that Killenaule, who were missing county players Kieran Bergin and John O’Dwyer, were always in touch.  A Killenaule goal late in the half meant the teams went in level at the break, 0-10 to 1-7.

Moneygall started the second half strongly with three quick points but Killenaule were soon back level.  But Moneygall then gradually got on top through Willie Greene’s accurate free-taking and some well-taken scores from Phil Fanning (0-2) and Ger Kirwan, who brought his own tally for the day to five points.  Moneygall were able to hold on to the finish to win by a 0-20 to 1-12 scoreline.

Moneygall will now play Kilruane MacDonaghs in the second round of the competition.
