The 2012 R.C.T.L.C. Roscrea Regional Sport Star Awards will be presented in the Rackett Hall this Friday night.  The list of award winners is headed by John Gleeson, who will be presented with the Hall of Fame Award in recognition of his achievements with Moneygall and Tipperary during his playing career.

John won an All-Ireland minor medal with Tipperary in 1959, and following a few years with the Liam Mellows club in Galway he rejoined Moneygall in 1963.  He joined the Tipperary panel in 1965 and was a near permanent fixture in the team until 1974.  In 1971 he was the winner of All-Ireland, Munster and National League medals when he lined out at corner back.  He also represented Munster in The Railway Cup in 1973 and 1974.

Then followed the highlights of his club career as Moneygall won the north and county titles in 1975, when John was also named as North Tipperary Hurler of the Year.  Moneygall retained the county title in 1976, and John retired the following year.

Congratulations to John on his award, and well done also to young golfer Clodagh Jones of Roscrea Golf Club who will be the recipient of the Special Achievement Award on Friday night.
