Our Under 14 hurlers put up a battling performance but were just edged out in the end by a strong Silvermines team in a thrilling North U14 B Hurling Final in Cloughjordan on Wednesday evening.  In a hectic game both teams enjoyed their spells of dominance but Silvermines gradually got a grip on the game as the second half wore on and finished stronger to win by three points.

Silvermines opened the scoring in the first minute but Moneygall soon settled and had a dominant spell putting three points on the board from two Joe Fogarty frees and one from Niall Maher from play.  When Joe Fogarty set up Neil Maher for a goal around the 20-minute mark the scoreline read 1-3 to 0-1.  But The Mines finished the half with a goal and a point to narrow the gap.  When Joe Fogarty was again fouled he pointed the free himself to leave the half time score Moneygall 1-4 Silvermines 1-2.

Silvermines picked up where they left off with a point and then another goal in the early stages of the second half.  But Moneygall bounced back with a brilliantly taken goal from Jack O'Brien following Joe Fogarty's handpass, and Fogarty soon added a point from play to make it 2-5 to 2-3.  But The Mines attacked again and following another point they added their third goal to lead by two points inside the last ten minutes.

Again Moneygall responded - Joe Fogarty pointed a free after a foul on David Jones, and within a minute substitute Jack Bolger with his first touch added another to level the match with five minutes left.  Another Silvermines point edged them back in front late on, and when they added another in the last minute Moneygall now needed a goal. A 65 and a free were dropped in in injury time but the Silvermines backs cleared the danger on both occasions, and deep into injury time they stretched their lead to three with another point with the last puck of the game.
