Our junior hurlers got their north championship campaign off to a winning start with a hard-fought 2-12 to 2-11 win against Borris-Ileigh on Saturday evening in Toomevara.  The match was close from start to finish with both teams enjoying periods of dominance.  At half time the teams were level at 1-6 each, Moneygall's goal was well finished by Donal Doughan late in the half.

Pointed frees from long-distance from both teams was a feature of the match and the scores remained close until a Borris-Ileigh goal followed by a point put them four points ahead, 2-9 to 1-8 with 15 minutes left.  Points from Paul O'Brien and Dwayne Collison narrowed the gap but Moneygall were still a point behind into injury time. Then a 65 from John Doughan went all the way to the net to give Moneygall the lead.  Borris-Ileigh replied with a point but as they looked for an equaliser their last attack was well-defended by the Moneygall backs and the final whistle soon followed.
