Hard luck to the Clonakenny/Moneygall hurlers who were beaten by JK Brackens in the Mid Minor B Hurling Final in Littleton on Sunday afternoon.  Brackens started with the advantage of a strong diagonal wind and got off to a great start when an early goal from a penalty gave them a 1-2 to 0-1 lead, after Paddy Devereux had pointed for Clonakenny/Moneygall.  A second goal on 20 minutes stretched the gap to 2-3 to 0-1, after a line ball came down off the post and was scrambled to the net.  The tricky wind made shooting difficult and the wides tally crept up for both teams as the half went on.  Brackens led by nine points at half time, 2-4 to 0-1.

Clonakenny/Moneygall made some positional switches at half time and had pointed frees from John Joe Ryan and Ciaran Quinlan in the early minutes of the second half.  The comeback then sprung to life when Sean Fogarty set up Patrick Egan for a goal and added one himself soon after to make it 2-7 to 2-3 at the three-quarter stage.  Eoin Greene and John Joe Ryan added points and when Anthony Devereux goaled with six minutes to play we went in front for the first time, 3-5 to 2-7.  But from the puckout Brackens earned a second penalty and again scored a goal to retake the lead, and quickly added two points to lead by four.

Twice in the closing stages John Joe Ryan pointed frees to reduce the gap to three points, but on both occasions Brackens responded with a point of their own, to leave the final scoreline of 3-11 to 3-7.

Team: John O'Meara; Kevin Powell, Ciaran Quinlan (0-1 free), Tomas Duane; Aidan Fanning, Willie Costigan, Liam Carroll; Sean Fogarty (1-0), Cian Murray; Paul Bergin, Eoin Greene (0-1), Patrick Egan (1-0); Anthony Devereux (1-0), John Joe Ryan (0-4 frees), Paddy Devereux (0-1).  Sub: Noel Fogarty for Aidan Fanning.
